Waiver Wire Pickups

Let’s get to the players you should consider picking up if they are available in your league: Marquese Chriss is on another planet right now. Over the past 7 days, Chriss is averaging 20.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks. He should be universally owned. Daniel Theis is another player that should be universally owned as he is the only healthy big man in Boston who can play defense. Add him if you need a consistent source of points, rebounds, and blocks. Who doesn’t? Larry Nance Jr. was dropped in a TON of leagues following the results of the trade deadline. I get it. The Cleveland Cavaliers have nothing to play for (except the lottery) and Nance Jr. should be able to produce despite the presence of Andre Drummond. For those games that Drummond or Kevin Love sit out due to injury or load management, Nance Jr. becomes a must-start. Juancho Hernangomez was an NBA Trade Deadline winner stepping right into the starting lineup for a rebuilding Minnesota Timberwolves team. Since being traded to the Timberwolves, Hernangomez is averaging 15 points, 6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and low-end stock stats while playing 30 minutes per game. He’s a speculative pickup everywhere. Jordan Poole got the start at point guard over Ky Bowman and winded up playing 32 minutes. Poole seems poised to hold onto the starting point guard job for as long as Stephen Curry is sidelined, which gives him value in 12-plus team leagues. Over the last four games, Poole is averaging 14.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 0.7 steals while playing 29 minutes per game. Karl Anthony-Towns is expected to miss a few games after the All-Star Break, which means James Johnson should continue to start in his place. Last Wednesday, Johnson started in place of KAT and had 5 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks in 32 minutes. Add him in all leagues for his elite 3-and-D stats. If he’s already taken, give Naz Reid a look. Malik Monk has been ON FIRE over the last two weeks. He is averaging 15.6 points, 4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and low-end stocks stats while playing 29 minutes per game. He is worth owning and starting in all leagues while he’s hot. With the uncertain futures of Marvin Bagley and Richaun Holmes, Jabari Parker becomes very interesting. Parker was traded to the Sacramento Kings before the trade deadline and he should step into big minutes after the All-Star Break. Thon Maker is loving life right now. Over the past week, Maker is averaging 14 points, 6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.5 blocks while playing 28 minutes. He is locked into 25-30 minutes a night following the Drummond trade, and he should AT LEAST be looked at as a consistent source of blocks with room for more. Seth Curry is doing his best Stephen Curry impression by averaging 3.8 3-pointers over the past week in addition to 19.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.0 steals. WOW! Ride the Curry wave while it’s raging! The Cavaliers seem to have given their prized rookie Kevin Porter Jr. more run over the past week. Over the past week, he’s averaging 23 minutes per game while contributing low-end stats across-the-board. As the season goes on, I expect the Cavaliers to fully unleash him as they build towards the future. Lastly, with Damian Lillard set to miss the next 1-2 weeks with a groin strain, Anfernee Simons and Gary Trent Jr. are both worth a look in DEEP leagues.
