To celebrate the New Year, I wanted to give you guys something special that I haven’t done for quite some time. Last year, I created fantasy player comparisons between the present and past era of superstars. My vision was to utilize past versus current NBA stats. This time we will go over current player comparisons in the Fantasy Basketball Dynasty future. Let’s determine who would be the better choice if you drafted today.
Fantasy Basketball Dynasty Luka vs Greek Freak
Dynasty Fantasy Basketball: Dynasty Fighter
Introducing to all: Fantasy Basketball “Dynasty Fighter Chapter VI”. In short: Dynasty Fighter. We’re going to go in the trenches to choose who the victorious player would be in the next 2-3 Years. The First player to earn 2 wins statistically becomes the Winner. We will consider each year equivalent to rounds.
Most will have this matchup as an easy win for Luka, but I think we have to check out a few things before assuming this. Luka had a brief injury stint that could hamper some of his value whereas Giannis has added some new skills to his arsenal.
Round 1 (2019-2020)
Luka Doncic –
Luka Doncic is putting up incredible numbers this season. In just his Sophomore year he had MVP chants from the start. As mentioned above, Luka’s ankle injury has slowed him down in the MVP race. He recently came back on the court and hasn’t missed a beat. Will this Harm him in the long haul? It shouldn’t, but we have seen worse.
This year Luka has been a man amongst boys. Imagine saying that for a young guy at the age of 20. He has upgraded in about every Category. Last year he finished at an ADP of 100. Right now, Luka is posting Top 11 Value. Wow! That’s 95 spots up from the 2018-2019 Season. I did not expect this leap to happen so fast in his second season of work. Let’s hope that he doesn’t have any more injuries this season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo –
Giannis Wrapped up the MVP Award last year in fashion. The Race was quite close with James Harden. Giannis and the Milwaukee Bucks had an opportunity to make the finals last year. A lot of us forgot that Milwaukee was up 2-0 against Toronto. It wasn’t until Game 3 in Toronto where the tide started to turn and the Bucks lost 4 games in a row. That sent Giannis and the Bucks back home Packing. Unfortunately, he came up short of a finals appearance.
This Year Giannis has taken his Offensive prowess to the next level. It’s hard to imagine that he is averaging over 1.7 3 Pointers a game this season. He has increased his shot attempts from the 3-Point line (5.1) a game. Opponents from afar have allowed him to take deep shots. Hopefully, his offense can continue to improve.
Improvements
Both Players have made dramatic jumps in categories so far this season versus last season. We expected a better season from both players. Rumblings have surfaced up already in regards to Luka being an MVP this season. In Contrast, Giannis already has an MVP Title under his belt. So maybe this first round should go to Giannis.
Round 1 Winner: Luka
Have to give Year one to Luka Doncic. Not much to dive into here. The ADP Spike was what catapulted Luka. Points, 3’s, Rebs, Ast, Stls, FG%, FT% Usage Rate, and Attempts up. He is almost averaging a triple-double. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a strong showing, but the regression in his FT% Harmed his value. Punting Strategy may be different here because he is the better player.
Round 2 (Future 2020-2021)
Luka Doncic –
We covered some of Luka’s 2019-2020 season, but what about the 2020-2021 season? First of all, the expectations will be higher for him. Secondly, it’s hard to ignore the improvement of the 2019-2020 season. Let’s not assume that he will make another massive leap this year. Although we shouldn’t be surprised if Luka becomes the #1 overall pick 2020-2021 in all Fantasy Formats. It seems like that we can peg him as a Top 5 Player in Redraft and Points Formats.

Giannis Antetokoumpo –
We covered some of the Greek Freaks 2019-2020 season, but what about the 2020-2021 season? Free Throw Percentage was not Giannis’s best friend. That’s not to say he didn’t do well in 2020. In 9 CAT leagues, that screamed regression. 2021 appears to be the year he takes a step forward. Before the 2019-2020 season, his ADP 3 years prior was inside the 10. It looks like he will fall out of the top 10 for the 2019-2020 season.

Round 2 Winner: Giannis Antekoumpo
This round was difficult to decide here. Greek Freaks Free Throw Percentage will help anchor him back. How much he’ll get better is still to be determined. Assuming he won’t shoot as low as 62% from the charity stripe again. Giannis has not shot under 70% in his 7-year career. Aside from his Rookie Year. Luka Doncic may take a small step back due to expectations. Some seasons are hard to duplicate. In Contrast, he could potentially be the number 1 value player in 9 CAT and Points Leagues in 2020-2021.
Round 3 (Future 2021-2022)
Luka Doncic –
2020-2021 The Break out year Luka had in Round 1 was the expectation we had for him in round 2. Instead, he did that in 2019-2020. Regression from Round 2 will not be the same for the final round. Body composition may change. First of all, Luka is not the most Athletic guy on the court. Maybe he puts on some muscle mass, which could add another element to his game. The Slight regression he took in the 2nd round will only make him bounce back even better than before.

Giannis Antetokoumpo –
The Year Giannis takes his game to another level on offense. Giannis may expand his mid-range game. He may gain more traction and add fade-away jump shots to his arsenal. The 3 Point shot for him has already been a revelation for him in his career. 2021-2022 Greek Freak will be at his potential Ceiling at age 28. Most will forget already how he started his career. By this time, he could potentially be talked about one of the best if his offense all together can click.

Final Thoughts
Most GM’s in a Fantasy Dynasty League would easily pick Luka after this current year. Warranted so, but if your Punting FT%, Giannis is the #1 Overall Player. Ranking players in fantasy is just a measuring tool. It helps to gauge some logic on where to draft players. Use Rankings to your benefit on Draft Value or to Cut Coupons on players.
Luka and Giannis are completely different players, but it was good to use them in this article. Luka may have a slightly higher upside here. He may even improve defensively. That could Catapult Luka to another level. Youth is what Dynasty Owners Crave. Giannis is still young, but Luka is much younger. Another Knock that could potentially harm Giannis, is his defensive stats. Giannis Steals and Blocks have slowly Declined. Overall, both of these players are good. Luka is wreaking havoc at his current age which can only mean bigger days to come. Could he be better than LeBron, himself? We shall see.
