Fantasy Football: Week 14 Waiver Wire

Welcome back to the New Life Fantasy waiver wire article! If you’re reading this, then you’re probably in your fantasy playoffs looking for an edge to take home the trophy so I congratulate you. Or you sticking in there to have fun and claim some bragging rights in which I commend your sportsmanship. Either way, I got just the pick ups for you to help claim victory.

QB

Philip Rivers (Ind)

Rostered: 40% (yahoo), 17% (espn)

Rivers continues to be consistent, averaging 22 fantasy points in his last 7 games in standard leagues. The Colts play the Raiders in week 14 followed by a rematch with the Texans in week 15 giving the vetern QB favorable matchups in upcoming weeks. As long as he stays rostered in under 50% of leagues, I’ll mention Rivers in next week’s article as he’ll remain a safe streamer or injury replacement.

Drew Lock (Den)

Rostered: 11% (yahoo), 9% (espn)

Lock has one of the easiest schedules for the rest of the season when it comes to QBs with his toughest opponent being Los Vegas in week 17, ranked 11th easiest for opposing QBs. Not to mention all the firepower Lock has to pass to. Plus the return of CMC will keep Denver passing all game. Denver’s Defense seems to really be kicking into gear holding the high powered Chiefs to their lowest score since week 5 of 2019. And that’s including the playoffs. Denver might not have won in week 13, but the team looked fired up and ready to carry momentum forward. With all these stars coming to align, the Broncos could try to top their season off with a 4 game win streak keeping Lock another safe option to pick up in your Fantasy playoffs.

Sam Darnold (NYJ)

Rostered: 8% (yahoo), 2% (espn)

I know right? Who features the Jets QB in a fantasy article? I do. I do when that QB is playing against Seattle’s pass defense which just gave up over 100 yards and a TD to Colt McCoy. It’s also going to be an all you can eat buffet for Wilson, forcing the Jets to play keep up which usually looks good for a QB’s numbers.

RB

Phillip Lindsay (Den)

Rosterd: 45% (yahoo), 45% (espn)

Although Lindsay had a very tough time getting anything going against the Chiefs, he still carried the ball 14 times. I understand the importance of making the best of your opportunities, but when the volume is there you can’t help but to take notice. Lindsay also has a very easy schedule coming up for the rest of the season. The Colorado kid is definitely at least worth a stash spot especially with week 17 being against Los Vegas who ranks 4th easiest to opposing RBs.

Adrian Peterson (Det)

Rostered: 48% (yahoo), 36% (espn)

The “illness” related issues to Swift that were preceded by a concussion put Peterson back into the fantasy relevance conversation. If Swift is to miss week 14, “All Day” has a prime matchup against the Packers which currently rank as the 3rd easiest opponent for RBs. Even if Swift is out Peterson was still seeing carries especially in the endzone.

Ty Johnson (NYJ) Rostered: 2% (yahoo), 1% (espn) Gore was ruled out of week 13 with a concussion paving the way for a great outing for Johnson, posting a 22-104-1 rushing state line with 13 receiving yards on top. The volume alone demands a roster spot so be sure to snatch the guy up and keep a close eye on the gore situation.

WR Laviska Shenault Jr. (Jax) Rostered: 16% (yahoo) 12% (espn) As I expected last week, Shenault came through with a total of 12 standard fantasy points. With a favorable matchup against the Titans secondary and potentially Minshew back at center, we could see his numbers go up. I also really like WRs that tend to take some rushing snaps. Breshad Perriman (NYJ) Rostered: 24% (yahoo) 16% (espn) Another guy I just have to mention for the 2nd straight week. But this one is more of an obvious “by default” pick seeing as the Jets will be playing catchup with the Seahawks who have the worst pass defense in the league. Look for Perriman to have a bounce back week and slip back into the flex conversation. Tim Patrick (Den) Rostered: 27% (yahoo), 18% (espn) If you take out weeks 1, 2, and 12 (no QB fiasco), Patrick has averaged over 10 fantasy points per game in standard leagues. Patrick will have a favorable matchup against Carolina in week 14 which should be a game where he’ll have plenty of opportunities to perform.

TE Tyler Eifert (Jax) Rostered: 6% (yahoo), 3% (espn) We all know how thin TEs are and how difficult it could be to maneuver the TE waiver wire, but Eifert just might be a widely available guy that has a good shot to stand out amongst his peers. Minshew could finally return in week 14 giving him a much more favorable situation. What also helps his case is that the Titans rank amongst the top 10 in points allowed to opposing TEs. Trey Burton (Ind) Rostered: 49% (yahoo), 12% (espn) Yahoo seems to agree with me with just slipping under the 50% mark and only 12% in espn leagues. I might start to seem biased because I pick Burton more than I probably should, but he is always an interesting pick. We’ve seen catch, run and even pass for touchdowns which automatically raises his ceiling though his floor remains pretty low. Other Notable Pickups Baker Mayfield (QB – Cle) JD McKissick (RB – Wsh) KJ Hamler (WR – Den) Allen Lazard (WR – GB) Tyler Higbee (TE – Lar)
